Frequently Asked Questions
Ok, so what is a 'virtual race'?
A virtual race is a race that can take place wherever you want, in your own time and at your own pace. A virtual race can be completed on a treadmill, around a racetrack, a beachfront, even during another competitive race, wherever you can run, you can earn a medal!
What do I have to do to sign up?
Its simple! Click on the races tab at the top and you will be taken to our shop page. Choose one (or more) of our virtual challenges and add it to your shopping cart. All of our prices are exclusive of VAT, this will be added at checkout at (20%) so for a £10 race the total will be £12.
Races range from between £10-20 before VAT.
Our registered VAT number is: 257 9529 54
Once you have registered for an account just complete your run by the end of the calendar month of the specified race, upload your race evidence and we will send you your medal in the post! Please note that all races must be claimed within the timeframe of the race and not before. E.g. if a race is listed as ‘October’ you can submit evidence anytime between 1st - 31st October.
We use PayPal to process all of our payments. Don't have/want a PayPal account? Don't worry. Just access the site through a laptop or desktop machine and PayPal will give you the option of checking out as a guest using a Credit/Debit card! We are currently looking into different payment methods- watch this space!
What do you mean by race evidence?
If you use one of the many running apps available out there at the moment, just take a screen cap and upload it to the site once you've logged into your account. Otherwise a picture of your treadmill display or running watch data will be fine. If you are completing one of our longer distance challenges, we have spreadsheets or milage colouring sheets that can be downloaded from our Facebook group #TEAMPOW which will also be accepted as evidence! We unfortunately cannot accept run evidence that has been sent over Facebook or Twitter.
***ALL EVIDENCE MUST BE SUBMITTED BETWEEN THE FIRST DAY AND MIDNIGHT ON THE LAST DAY OF THE MONTH TO QUALIFY FOR THE MEDAL***
Do you accept only running evidence?
Hell no! We understand that everyone is at their own stage of exercise so we are now happy to accept evidence of ANY trackable exercise. This can include; running, walking, cycling, cross training, skateboarding, rolling, cartwheeling.... you get the idea :)
Have I got to complete the distance all in one go?
No, if you are building up your distances, you can split your race over a few days or weeks and they can be in any amount of distances as you need! For example, you may complete a 10k race with 2 x 5k, or 5x 2k, its up to you! Whichever way you complete the distance, a medal is a great reward for your achievement!
How do I upload my evidence?
Once you have complete your distance, return to the website and log in. Once logged in you will be able to click on the 'submit your evidence' yellow button where you will be prompted to select the races that you have entered that month (in the drop down menu) Just upload your evidence and click submit...Easy! If you have many images to upload, you may need to use an app to collate all of your images into one OR we are happy to accept a list of dates/distances.
Where can I check if I have entered?
Once entered, you will have received an automated email confirming your space, you can check which race you are entered in by clicking on the links found on the Races page.
Where can I find information about races Ive entered?
Once you enter any of our races you will receive two emails. One is a welcome letter from POW! explaining how a virtual run works and the other is a summary of your races, a link to your race number and information on when the race needs to be completed by. This information can also be found on the 'races' page.
We now also have a 'My Races' section of the website where you can check if your evidence has been verified etc. Before you can access the 'My Races' Page you will need to sign up to a user account.
How far do I have to run?
All of our races are different. If a race has a specific distance it will be clearly labelled in the race description. i.e. POW 5k RACE. If there is NOT a description in the title then this is classed as a 'choose your own distance' race. For these races, all you need to do is set yourself a target, then get out there and smash it!
Who can enter a virtual race?
Anyone and everyone! We would ask that if your child (under 18) wants to enter that they should complete the distance under supervision and with a competing parent/guardian (and running together is more fun!) but apart from that there are no restrictions. Just get out there and run, walk, hike, whatever works for you! By entering our virtual races you are agreeing that any injury or damage that is caused by completing your race is your own responsibility. POW! Virtual Running Ltd will not be held responsible for any injury that occurs during your run. Please see our full Terms and Conditions for more info.
When will I get my medal?
We aim to send medals out at least 3 times a week. Medals are send out second class so please allow up to 4 working days to receive it if you are in the UK, or around 4/5 weeks if international. Please note that if you have uploaded an incorrect address or if you move house and fail to update your address in your account (therefore medals are sent to the wrong address or are not received at all) there will be an extra admin fee of £5 to resend a replacement medal which will only be sent if we have surplus stock. If this is the case you will not be offered a refund but you may be offered a space in a different race, at the owners discretion.
How do you know where to send my medal to?
All medals will be sent to the address that you registered with when signing up for an account. You can update your address by going to the 'My Account' section once logged in.
I’m not in the UK, can I still enter?
Of course! Although we do have to charge a small postage fee to anyone entering from outside of the UK. Just choose your country at checkout and your ready to race! You may notice that our sign up box does not ask for a country, we get all of the addition information that we need though PayPal.
How can I raise money for charity?
Over the past 4 years we have raised a significant amount of money for charity. As the business grew this was becoming too time consuming to manage and we hated having to put charities etc on a waiting list. We still do complete some specific charity races but if there is not a charity listed in the description of the race, we are now encouraging you to choose a charity of your choice and set up a just giving or similar page so that you can raise money for a charity of your choice. We would love to hear about which charities you ran for while completing our challenges.
Finally, the only other question you need to ask yourself.... When are you going to enter?
